Thank you for the article. As someone who grew up writing code, starting with writing in a notebook, yep that’s right, and now building production AI systems, this article is super relevant no matter what is the scale of the product being built.
I however have a feeling that as people start using agents more than ever for coding, people having stopped caring about the small boring but super important stuff that you have described here.
Which is fine for weekend throwaway projects but not fine when building serious products used by a vast number of people.
The boring stuff is what separates the majority of vibe coders from the current agentic engineers and it’s great that this articles explains it from first principles
I’ve been wondering about how to get more people to actually think about this stuff in the agentic coding era, maybe by prompting the agents to actually do this? But if they don’t even know about, how would they even ask their agents to do it. Interesting times.
I am happy to see more people being able to create things. I’d like them to create things that last and can grow. Things they can continue to change and not give up because they broke something.
